Before I begin this conversation, I must confess something — I am married.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s begin this conversation. I say it’s a conversation because I really hope that in 2019, people think that women are capable of holding their own in a conversation.

The idea for this article germinated after a thorough commiserating session with colleagues who were yet to achieve the bliss of matrimony, so this is on their behalf. After all, sisters before misters, right? My dear colleagues, who are yet to find the one (the horror, the horror) are what you might call 21st Century gals. They are travelers, dreamers, poets, food bloggers, in general, badass women. They know their worth and believe in themselves — something that is not easily accepted by the society, in general, and no, I am not making this up, dear men.

Before you go on accusing me of being a feminazi, I would like to point out that while I do believe in feminism as a movement, I don’t condone using it as an excuse to get out of making hard calls. So there you have it, I am not a bra-burning, man-hating, black sheep of my gender. And neither am I rebel without a cause. But moving on to more important questions first.

It was in the year 1999 that Mr. Kurita, a Japanese designer, designed the first set of emojis for cell phones (2). He’d made them for the first ever mobile internet system, called NTT Docomo’s i-mode, which was used back then. The program coined for this allowed a user to only use a maximum of 250 characters in an email. This is why Kurita designed emojis as it would be a better way to easily communicate with less scope for misunderstandings. He made use of a combination of the different everyday symbols, some Chinese characters, manga imagery as inspiration, and few street signs which lead him to create emojis that were 176, 12-pixel by 12-pixel characters. He considers emojis to be useful tools of communication that can transcend languages.

And if your feet have cracks which are bleeding or hurt a lot, then soak them in lukewarm water. You can just fill a small basin or bucket with warm water and dip your feet in it.

For better foot therapy and relief from cracked heels, we suggest that you add a tablespoon of salt to the water. You can also add a few drops of essential oils. We recommend tea tree oil because of its therapeutic, antifungal, and antiseptic properties (2). Once you’ve soaked your feet for about 15-20 minutes, try the DIY vinegar scrub that we have described below and heal them (the cracks).

  • Salt: 2 tablespoons
  • Vinegar or apple cider vinegar: ½ tablespoon
  • Olive oil: ½ tablespoon

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. After you’ve soaked your feet in warm water, take this scrub in your hands. And gently scrub away the dead cells from the cracks of your heels by massaging it with the scrub. Be a little gentle while scrubbing if you feel it to be painful. You can scrub your entire feet with this, however, concentrate on the parts of your heels. Wash your feet and pat it dry after scrubbing. Following this moisturize your feet and wear socks while sleeping. Wearing socks will help retain the moisture of the feet.
